Ex-Nigeria U20 Invitee Beats Akinfenwa, Two Others To League One Player of October Award
Published: November 09, 2018
Former Nigeria U20 invitee Freddie Ladapo on Friday has been awarded the Sky Bet League One Player of the Month of October beating off competition from another star in the division with Nigerian blood, Wycombe Wanderers' Adebayo Akinfenwa and the pair of Simon Eastwood (Oxford United goalkeeper) and Tom Eaves (Gillingham forward).
Ladapo made the nomination after he scored six out of the Pilgrim's 11 goals and set up two more in six league games despite a tough start to the month..
Ladapo became the first Pilgrim since David Friio in 2003 to register back-to-back braces, scoring both Argyle goals in a 3-2 home defeat by Burton Albion, and the first two goals in the 3-1 home win against Gillingham.
The highlight and perhaps best of Freddie's six goals was his opener against Burton Albion, a superb solo effort that culminated with a curling finish.
Wycombe Wanderers' massively built Adebayo Akinfenwa, had three assists and scored three goals, including a thunderous volley and a textbook header for his 200th career goal.
Simon Eastwood, the Oxford United goalkeeper, was beaten only from the penalty spot in four league matches, which included a home shut-out against the Pilgrims while Gillingham forward Eaves scored four league goals in the month under review.
