Go Ahead Eagles Whizkid Gets Maiden Nigeria U17 Call-Up Ahead Of AFCON
Published: February 13, 2019Allnigeriasoccer.com has been informed that highly-rated youngster Lateef Omidiji Jr is in line to make his debut for the Golden Eaglets next month after receiving a call-up to the national team.
This is the first time the Go Ahead Eagles teen sensation has been invited to the Nigeria U17s since he turned his back on his country of birth, United States.
Omidiji was a key member of the Nigeria U15 squad which won silver at the African Youth Games in July 2018 and could be fast-tracked into the Golden Eaglets squad if he impresses Manu Garba and his assistants during the training camp in Abuja.
The 15-year-old, who is on the radar of several Premier League clubs, most notably Arsenal, departed the Netherlands on Wednesday morning and is expected to land in Abuja by 2000 hours.
The Nigeria Football Federation will get kudos after winning the race for a player sought after by other countries.
The Golden Eaglets are scheduled to participate in a tournament which will hold in Turkey from Friday, March 1 to Sunday, March 10 as part of their preparations for the 2019 U17 AFCON.
Lateef Omidiji is an attacker with blistering pace who scored a hat trick last season against Borussia Dortmund U16s.
He is well known in Europe as a two-footed diverse striker that can play centrally as a number nine and can play on the flanks as well.
