Uzoho Fears He Could Be Dropped As Super Eagles First-Choice GK; CFA Cancels One-Match Ban
Published: February 23, 2019
Francis Uzoho's one-match suspension was cancelled by the Cyprus Football Association on Saturday afternoon but it is confirmed that the Super Eagles goalkeeper will not make his 'official debut' for Anorthosis when they tackle Ermis Aradippou.
It would be recalled that the CFA's sports adjudicator earlier ruled that the Nigeria international played with
an invalid medical certificate when he made his maiden appearance for Anorthosis Famagusta against Apollon Limassol on February 2.
The Famagusta club appealed the decision to dock the team nine points and suspend Uzoho for one game.
In the CFA ruling today, the decision to dock Anorthosis six points and three points awarded to Apollon was upheld.
However, Uzoho's one-match suspension was unanimously canceled because the player was not told that he had a disciplinary action against him.
Meanwhile, the Deportivo de La Coruña loanee fears he could be dropped as the Super Eagles first-choice goalkeeper for the 2019 African Cup of Nations due to his inactivity for Anorthosis Famagusta.
''It will certainly affect my career if I do not play anymore. As you said, I have the Nations Cup in June and I have to play. This was the main reason I came to Cyprus to play football and to help the team,'' Uzoho said to Alpha Cyprus news centre.
''If I do not play for three months, Nigeria has excellent goalkeepers playing in the first division in Europe and Africa.
''So if I do not play definitely my position in the team is complicated. I may lose my position in the team. It is not discussed that I will lose my position in the group''.
Uzoho, 20, appeared in eight matches for Elche in the first half of the season before heading to Anorthosis Famagusta in the January transfer window.
