Fifa U20 World Cup: Flying Eagles Have Never Lost Against Group D Opponents
Published: February 25, 2019
Nigeria have a favorable record against their Group D opponents at the 2019 Fifa U20 World Cup, with the draw pitting them against Qatar, Ukraine and United States.
The Flying Eagles will open group play against Qatar on May 24, face United States on May 27 and finish the group phase versus Ukraine three days later.
Nigeria will play their last two group matches at Stadion Miejski, Bielsko-Biała while their opening match is at Stadion Miejski w Tychach, Tychy.
In the Flying Eagles only previous meeting with the United States back in the 1989 edition, Mutiu Adepoju put Nigeria ahead with a strike from just outside the box a minute after the restart, the Americans equalised through Snow in the 52nd minute before the former Real Madrid youth-teamer netted the winning goal with a trademark bullet header three minutes into extra-time.
The seven-time African champions beat Ukraine 1-0 in the only previous encounter between the two countries in 2005 thanks to Taye Taiwo's speculative chip in the 80th minute, while they have never met Qatar in a competitive match.
Should Paul Aigbogun's side advance to the last sixteen as expected, they could face one of the teams in Groups A, B, E or F.
