'I'm not a bad player' - Victor Boniface shares honest verdict on his Super Eagles form
Published: November 06, 2025
Victor Boniface has opened up about his experiences with the Super Eagles, reflecting on both the difficulties he has faced and the pride he feels representing his country.
The striker admitted that scoring goals for the national team has been a persistent challenge, despite performing well in several matches.
"I would just say I'm unlucky with the national team in terms of scoring goals,” Boniface said in a media session with African journalists, including Oma Akatugba.
“I know there's a couple of games which I did really good, but the scoring goals part is the most important thing presently in the world of football.”
He explained that in modern football, many fans focus on results rather than watching the full game.
"If people don't even watch the game, they go on live score.
"When you score, you are Ronaldinho. You know, people don't watch the game. So, I'm sorry for those people that think that way," he added.
Despite the scoring challenges, Boniface expressed deep gratitude for the opportunity to represent Nigeria.
"My biggest dream before as a football player was to have this very moment of me representing my country, which I achieved by myself.
"I pushed myself to that point, which I'm really grateful for it," he said.
He emphasized that his struggles with scoring do not reflect his abilities as a player.
"It doesn't work bad. It doesn't work good. That doesn't mean I'm a bad player or anything. I'm really happy I represented my country anyway," he noted.
Boniface made his Super Eagles debut in 2023 and last featured in an international friendly against Russia in Moscow in June, where he was substituted after 61 minutes.
Currently on loan from Bayer Leverkusen to Werder Bremen, the forward has yet to score for the national team in 13 appearances.
