Why Sadiq Umar Failed To Impress Under Liverpool Legend Gerrard
Published: May 15, 2019
Nigerians celebrated Sadiq Umar's loan move to Rangers prior to the start of the season because they believed he will develop his game under Liverpool Legend Steven Gerrard.
The former Nigeria U23 Star officially linked up with the ex-England International in July, hoping to improve his goalscoring prowess with the help of the Rangers manager.
Unfortunately, everything went contrary to the 22-year-old's mission as he failed to feature in as many matches as expected.
What could have been the reasons for his unimpressive form with at the Ibrox Stadium, which led to his untimely contract termination? Allnigeriasoccer.com comes up with the top three possible reasons for his slump.
Gerrard's Preference For Other Strikers
Some managers tend to have a specific striker that they can't drop to the substitute bench regardless of their form.
Unfortunately for Umar, Gerrard happens to be one of them as the former Liverpool captain had so much trust in Alfredo Morelos.
The Colombian centre-forward played 47 games for the Scottish side, while the Nigerian featured in just four games.
This definitely played a huge part in his inability to make a positive statement during his stay with the Gers.
Lack Of Confidence
As much as the youngster didn't get many opportunities to show his talents, he lacked the required confidence to deliver.
He played four games without a goal or an assist. Instead, he wasted some clear-cut chances that came his way.
He seems to have regained his form since joining Serie B side Perugia, where he has scored three goals and three assists since January.
