Lampard Reveals Exactly Why Abraham Was Omitted From Chelsea Squad Vs Kawasaki Frontale
Published: July 19, 2019
There were many eyebrows raised when England U21 star Tammy Abraham was not named in Chelsea's match day squad for their pre-season friendly against Kawasaki Frontale on Friday, July 19.
The Nigeria Football Federation target has traveled with The Blues to Japan and was spotted training with the first team at Mitsuzawa Football Stadium in Yokohama on Wednesday.
Speaking to reporters after the 1-0 loss to Kawasaki Frontale, Lampard revealed exactly why Abraham and goalkeeper Arrizabalaga were not in the squad.
''The illnesses aren’t related. Tammy Abraham has tonsillitis and Kepa reported a stomach bug this afternoon,'' the former Chelsea midfielder said.
''I’m not a doctor but I think it comes alongside what I mentioned before about flying in, a lot of players aren’t sleeping and are finding it difficult in different ways and it’s come out in those two players.''
Although Fikayo Tomori was named in the match day squad, he was the only outfield player not utilized by Lampard.
The two Nigeria-eligible youngsters will be hoping to feature in Chelsea's next friendly against Barcelona next Tuesday.
