Ex-Man Utd Stars Name The Two Players Nigeria-Eligible Saka Is Competing With For Left-back Role Euro 2020
Published: March 06, 2020
Former Manchester United stars Rio Ferdinand and Robbie Savage have identified Leicester City's Ben Chilwell and Luke Shaw as the two defenders Arsenal wonderkid Bukayo Saka is competing with to be named in the England squad for the 2020 European Championship this summer.
The Nigeria Football Federation are discretely monitoring the performance of Saka ahead of a potential call-up to the Super Eagles but their plans of luring the versatile winger to the three-time African champions could go up in smoke if he features for the Three Lions at the European championship.
On his choice at left-back for Gareth Southgate's team at Euro 2020, Savage said on BT Sport : "Saka. Shaw. I will say Luke Shaw because he did exceptionally well".
Ferdinand pointed out that Saka offers more offensively and has racked up many assists in the ongoing season.
Having said that, it is thought that the 18-year-old's chances have become slim as Shaw is playing well at the moment and was officially the best player on the pitch during United's 3-0 win against Derby County on Thursday night.
Red Devils legend, Ferdinand said : "I think he's (Shaw) doing all the right things to be in a manager's thoughts and I think it's going to be a big question for the manager.
"I think Gareth Southgate will be pleased, that's what he'll be that I have got Chilwell, Shaw now pushing on, Saka at Arsenal - loads of assists, fantastic going forward. Good options."

Savage added : "I think Shaw is better defensively that Chilwell."
Gareth Southgate will announce his roster for this month's international friendlies against Italy and Denmark within the next two weeks.
