'Why Wait Until The Summer?' - Campbell Urges Arsenal To Secure Future Of Saka As Soon As Possible
Published: May 05, 2020
Former Gunners striker Kevin Campbell is urging Arsenal to tie Bukayo Saka to a new deal as soon as possible.
There is concern over the future of the Hale End Academy product as he has roughly one year remaining on the professional contract he signed in 2018 and has been linked with possible moves to Premier League and German Bundesliga clubs in recent weeks.
Saka impressed with his versatility before the season was halted, filling in at left-back since December following the injuries suffered by experienced duo Sead Kolasinac and Kieran Tierney.
"I just think it was going to be a case of them negotiating at the end of the season, and then tying him down to a nice long-term contract," Campbell told Metro UK.
"I can’t see Arsenal letting him go, he’s young, he’s a gifted player and if you let these young gifted players out the building then you’ve got nothing really.
"I think it will get done, it’s just a case of when. I would like to see them move and get it done now, why wait until the summer?"
The 18-year-old Saka has gone the distance in eight matches in the Premier League so far this season.
