New St Albans Signing Onokwai On His Nigerian Heritage, Supporting Arsenal
Published: June 18, 2020
New St Albans City signing Chid Onokwai has spoken about his Nigerian heritage and the club he supported growing up as a kid.
Onokwai joined the National League South outfit last week following an impressive season that saw him score fourteen goals in all competitions for Haringey Borough, despite injuries limiting his appearances.
Asked to shed light on his Nigerian roots and where he grew up, Onokwai told Non League Daily : "We’re all Nigerian but we all grew up here.
"I’ve lived in a lot of areas across London and now I live in Waltham Cross; it’s about half an hour from St Albans, I think."
He added : 'I’m a Gooner, but I think I just mostly focus on Ronaldo now because I’m done with Arsenal!"
Onokwai was surprised when he was told that St Albans City coach, Ian Allinson represented Arsenal's first team during his playing days.
"Serious? He didn’t mention that! Normally when you get guys who played at that level, they can’t wait to tell you! I’ll ask him about that one. I never knew that."
Onokwai previously wore the jerseys of Eton Manor, FC Romania and Hayes & Yeading United.
