Ndidi's Leicester, Ighalo's Man Utd Battle For UCL Spots Set To Heat Up As CAS Reverses Man City Ban
Published: July 13, 2020
Tosin Adarabioyo and Felix Nmecha's Manchester City will be one of England's four representatives in next season's UEFA Champions League after the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) revoked the sanction imposed by UEFA's Club Financial Control Body (CFCB) on Monday, July 13, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.
The deposed Premier League champions were earlier banned from UEFA competitions for two seasons and fined 30 million euros for breaching club licensing and financial fair play regulations.
But the ban was lifted today and City's fine was reduced to ten million euros due to their failure to cooperate with the CFCB's investigation.
Manchester City have been instructed to pay the 10 million euros fine to UEFA, within 30 days as from the date of issuance of the arbitral.
Following the ruling today, the battle for the two remaining Champions League spots in England is set to heat up.
Faustino Anjorin's Chelsea, Wilfred Ndidi's Leicester City, Odion Ighalo's Manchester United and Wolverhampton Wanderers are in the race to finish in the Champions League positions, with three games left to play.
In the provisional Premier League standings, Chelsea are third in the table with 60 points, five more than sixth-placed Wolves.
Mathematically, the likes of Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur and Sheffield United have a remote chance of entering the top four come the end of the season, as things stand.
