21-Year-old Nigerian Defender Makes Premier League Debut Against Manchester City
Published: July 26, 2020
Promising Norwich City youngster Akin Famewo made his English Premier League debut on the final day of the 2019-2020 season, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.
Canaries manager Daniel Farke handed a debut to the Nigerian center back just before the final whistle, introducing him off the bench as a replacement for Kenny McLean in the 92nd minute.
The 21-year-old Famewo stepped out on to the Etihad Stadium turf with the number 43 on the back of his jersey.
Signed from Luton Town in January 2019, he'd made the bench for four first team matches in the recently concluded season, against Preston North End in the FA Cup, Crawley Town in the League Cup, and two Premier League games with Aston Villa and Burnley, before today's clash at City.
Pep Guardiola's team were in total control of the game before Famewo came on for his Norwich City debut, scoring through Jesus, De Bruyne (2), Sterling and Mahrez.
Prior to joining Scottish Premiership side St Mirren on loan in the January transfer window, Famewo captained Norwich City U23s in the Premier League 2 and EFL Trophy.
With Norwich City finishing bottom of the pile in the English top-flight, he will be hoping to make his debut in the EFL Championship next season.
