Arsenal Rising Star Bukayo Saka Misses Out On PFA YPOTY To Liverpool Fullback
Published: September 08, 2020
Arsenal rising star Bukayo Saka has missed out on the prestigious Professional Footballers' Association Young Player of the Year, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.
The England U21 international of Nigerian descent had been in the running for the yearly accolade along with Liverpool's Trent Alexander-Arnold, Chelsea's Tammy Abraham and Mason
Mount, Manchester United's Mason Greenwood and Marcus Rashford.
England international fullback Alexander-Arnold has been named the PFA YPOTY for the 2019-2020 season after helping the Reds win their first Premier League title.
Assuming Saka won the award today, he would have been the first Nigeria-eligible player to claim the prize since it was first awarded in the 1973-74 season.
Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Dele Alli won the award twice but was already cap-tied to his country of birth, England.
The 19-year-old Saka scored four goals and provided 12 assists in 38 appearances across all competitions last term.
The Hale End Academy product was not selected in the matchday squad in the ongoing European U21 Championship qualifier between the Young Lions and Austria U21s at josko ARENA (Ried Im Innkreis).
