Seven Nigerians Including Debutant Akinola Help Arsenal Beat Ipswich Town In EFL Trophy
Published: September 08, 2020
As many as seven Nigeria-eligible starlets were in action for Arsenal who beat Ipswich Town 2-1 in their EFL Cup meeting at Portman Road on Tuesday evening, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.
Ryan Alebiosu, Daniel Oyegoke and Tolaji Bola were deployed in the defence while midfielder James Olayinka and striker Folarin Balogun who got on the score sheet all also started for the Gunners from the off.
Manager Steve Bould will bring on Miguel Azeez for Jordan McEneff on resumption of the second half while summer recruit Tim Akinola was handed his competitive run-out five minutes past the hour mark, replacing Salah-Eddine Oulad.
But it was Balogun who popped up with the winner for Arsenal, pouncing on a defence-splitting pass from Ben Cottrell to beat Town goalkeeper David Cornell for 2-1.
Mazeed Ogungbo was however, a non-playing substitute as the young Gunners kick-started their 2020/2021 season engagements with a victory.
