Ighalo Starts For Manchester United In Friendly Against Aston Villa
Published: September 12, 2020
Odion Ighalo has been handed valuable game time ahead of Manchester United's first competitive match of the new season, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.
The former Nigeria international started for the Red Devils in a friendly against Aston Villa in the West Midlands on Saturday afternoon.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer set up his team in a 4-2-3-1 formation with Ighalo leading the attack.
As previously suggested by this website, the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations top scorer has retained United's number 25 shirt and he wore the shirt number during the friendly vs Aston Villa.
Ighalo and his Manchester United teammates were originally supposed to start the 2020-2021 season with a trip to Burnley but the match was postponed because they were granted an extended break due to their commitments in the Europa League.
United's first match of the season comes up against Ebere Eze's Crystal Palace at Old Trafford on Saturday, September 19.
Ighalo, who scored five times last season, is battling Mason Greenwood, Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial for one of the spots in attack in the new season.
