La Liga: Ex-Arsenal Starlet Nwakali, Omoruyi Named In SD Huesca's Matchday Squad Vs Villarreal
Published: September 13, 2020
Two Nigerian youngsters are in contention to make their LaLiga Santander debuts for SD Huesca when they take on Samuel Chukwueze's Villarreal at the Estadio de la Cerámica on Sunday evening, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.
Former Arsenal midfielder Kelechi Nwakali and Carlos Kevin Omoruyi traveled with SD Huesca's first team to Castellón on Saturday.
With SD Huesca coach Michel naming only 21 players in his provisional squad, Nwakali and Omoruyi are certain to be included in the matchday squad barring an injury in the warm-up.
Unlike their English counterparts, Spanish clubs have voted for the continuation of the use of five substitutes for the 2020-2021 season and 23 players are permitted to be included in the matchday squad.
Though Spanish clubs are allowed to name only three non-EU players in their matchday squads, Nwakali will not count as a foreigner because of the Kolpak ruling, while Spanish-born striker Omoruyi is a homegrown player.
Chukwueze, who has retained his number 11 shirt for the 2020-2021 campaign, is in contention to be fielded against SD Huesca as he was spotted training with the Villarreal squad in their final workout on Saturday.
