Manchester United Hero Ferdinand Fears Arrival Of Willian Could Keep Saka Out Of Starting XI
Published: September 13, 2020Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand fears that the arrival of Willian from Chelsea could keep Bukayo Saka out of the starting lineup in the new season.
The Brazil international proved his worth on his competitive debut for the Gunners, providing two assists and was involved in the build-up to the opening goal scored by Alexandre Lacazette, who blasted home the rebound after his shot was saved by goalkeeper Marek Rodak.
Saka's preferred position is winger and it is a similar role played by Willian, meaning one of them has to drop to the bench if Mikel Arteta decides to play offensively and it is unlikely to be the Brazilian given his Premier League experience and ability to unlock defences.
The England U21 international ended last season with a goal contribution of 16 (4 goals, 12 assists), four less than Willian.
"Willian has come in and you've got to think of the likes of Saka, probably one of their most creative players last season. He's on the bench," Ferdinard said on BT Sport.
"Pepe signing, 72 million pounds, so he's (Willian) added that little bit of class and experience".

Saka made 29 starts, including 19 in the Premier League, in his first full season with Arsenal's first team.
