Ighalo Not Involved As Tottenham Hotspur Tear Manchester United Apart In Premier League
Published: October 04, 2020
Odion Ighalo was not selected in the matchday squad as Manchester United suffered their joint-worst defeat in the English Premier League, losing 6-1 to Jose Mourinho's Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday evening, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.
It was the second consecutive game that the former Nigeria international was left out of the matchday 18, having missed the clash at Brighton & Hove last weekend.
Tottenham got off to the worst possible start, with Bruno Fernandes scoring a penalty inside two minutes but the visitors responded almost immediately, Tanguy Ndombele netting the equaliser at minute 4, before Heung-Min Son made it 2-1 three minutes later.
The sending off of Anthony Martial in the 28th minute affected things and Spurs took advantage from an attacking point of view.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's team knew they were fighting a lost cause by the end of the first half as Harry Kane and Son got on the scoresheet to make it 4-1, before goals from Serge Aurier and the England captain in the second half completed the humiliation.
Ighalo has yet to make his full Premier League debut since joining Manchester United nine months ago, with his 12 appearances to date coming off the bench.
The Shanghai Shenhua loanee is behind Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford and Mason Greenwood in Solskjaer's pecking order of strikers.
