2019-2020 Champions League: Osimhen Named 12th Fastest Player; Olayinka Most Sprints
Published: October 28, 2020
According to UEFA's Technical Report, former Lille striker Victor Osimhen was one of the fittest and fastest players in last season's Champions League, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.
The former Lille striker recorded the 12th quickest sprint of the competition behind Kylian Mbappe, Lucas Klostermann, Hans Hateboer, Achraf Hakimi, Alphonso Davies, Kyle Walker, Ferland Mendy, Kingsley Coman, Erling Braut Haaland, Luis Muriel and Joe Gomez in that order.
Osimhen registered a speed of 32.98 km/hr during Lille's match against Ajax Amsterdam, which is exactly one kilometer slower than the pacy Paris Saint-Germain striker Mbappe.
Slavia Prague forward Peter Olayinka led the way for most sprints per match with an average of 60.33 and placed first ahead of two of his teammates in Petr Sevcik (59.40) and Lukas Masopust (56.67), while Koke (56.44) and Zeki Celik (56.33) finished fourth and fifth respectively.
Slavia players ranking high showed the fruits of coach Jindrich Trpisovsky's fitness work, which included each player having to meet a specific target of kilometers run at a certain speed on their return from both summer and winter breaks.
Osimhen appeared in five Champions League games last season while Olayinka was involved in six.
