Sonni-Lambie and Josh Abe on target for Liverpool youth team against Nottingham Forest
Published: November 09, 2025
Liverpool U18s fell to a 6-3 defeat against Nottingham Forest in the U18 Premier League on Saturday, with three players of Nigerian descent — Joshua Abe, Joshua Sonni-Lambie and Shadrach Ekiugbo — featuring for the young Reds.
Abe completed the full 90 minutes, while Sonni-Lambie was introduced just after the hour mark and Ekiugbo entered the fray in the 77th minute.
The two sides went into the interval level at 2-2, with Abe and Alvin Ayman responding to goals from Riko Robinson and Ethan Broomes.
Abe restored parity in the 40th minute, turning home at the back post after a fine delivery from La’More Forrester.
Nottingham Forest took control after the restart, as Scott Hamilton, Robinson, who completed his hat-trick, and Fuad Smith all found the target to put the visitors firmly in command.
Liverpool pulled one back late on through Sonni-Lambie, who finished neatly in the 84th minute following an assist from Abe.
Sonni-Lambie has continued to impress this season, amassing 13 goal contributions (10 goals, 3 assists) in 15 appearances across all competitions.
Abe remains one of the standout youngsters in his age group, despite still being a schoolboy, with four direct goal involvements in five league appearances.
Liverpool U18s will look to bounce back after the international break when they face Newcastle United in the Premier League Cup on Saturday, 22 November.
