Nigeria, England In Tug-Of-War For Flamboyant PSV Winger Dubbed The New Riyad Mahrez
Published: November 03, 2020
The Nigeria Football Federation are prepared to battle it out with their English counterparts for the services of talented PSV Eindhoven attacking midfielder and winger Nonso Madueke.
According to the Daily Mail, Nigeria are looking to prise the former Tottenham Hotspur U16 captain away from England.
London-born Madueke is provisionally cap-tied to his country of birth, England after making his competitive debut for the Young Lions against France in the 2019 U17 EURO in Republic of Ireland, a squad that also contained Arsenal midfielder Miguel Azeez.
The 18-year-old has also represented England at U15, U16 and U18 levels and was named in the England U19 squad last month only for the games against Scotland to be cancelled as a precaution, in line with COVID-19 protocols.
According to Youth expert Football Talent Scout, Madueke has a similar playing style to Manchester City's Riyad Mahrez and his main attributes are his pace, acceleration, dribbling, passing and ball control.
The Nigerian Federation have dangled a carrot before the flamboyant winger in the form of inviting him to the Super Eagles straight away, subject to FIFA's approval should he decide to pledge his allegiance to the three-time African champions.
Maduke has enjoyed a fine start to the season at PSV with a hand in 8 goals (4 goals, 4 assists) in 11 appearances across all competitions.
