Arsenal Winger Courted By Nigeria May Become Cap-tied To England This Month; Named In Latest Squad
Published: November 05, 2020
England manager Gareth Southgate has named a 29-man group ahead of
the Three Lions upcoming international matches against Republic of
Ireland, Belgium and Iceland, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.
Arsenal
starlet Bukayo Saka is in contention to make his competitive senior
England debut this month having made the squad list.
The
Hale End Academy product has been heavily courted by the Nigeria
Football Federation and manager Gernot Rohr but they did not get a
commitment from him before he was summoned to England's senior squad in
October.
Saka went on to make his full debut for the Three Lions in a 3-0 rout of Wales at Wembley.
Super
Eagles fans will certainly have eyes on the three England matches in
November as the Gunners super kid will become cap-tied to his country of
birth for life if handed minutes by Southgate in all the games, taking
his total appearances to four.
Saka would
not be able to switch nationality to Nigeria if that happens as he would
have played more than three games for England before turning 21.
Three
players born in England, namely Semi Ajayi, Joe Aribo and Ola Aina, as
well as former Young Lion Alex Iwobi have been named in the latest
Nigeria squad.
