'We Want To Qualify As Soon As Possible' - Troost-Ekong Assures Eagles Fans Of Better Display
Published: November 16, 2020
Watford center back William Troost-Ekong has assured disappointed Super Eagles fans of a better performance in Tuesday evening's Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match against Sierra Leone.
The Super Eagles trained at the Siaka Stevens Stadium in Freetown on Monday evening following their arrival in Freetown.
"We are ready, we just finished a good practice session and every one is ready for the game tomorrow," Troost-Ekong told Super Eagles TV.
On the state of the pitch, he said : "We are used to everything, we are Africans. We have been to Asaba, we have been in Uyo, Benin; this pitch is like any other pitch in Africa so it's no surprise for us, we are going to be ready to face them here."
The Super Eagles number 5 says that he wants to erase the painful memories of last Friday's dramatic 4-4 draw with the Leone Stars and is drawing inspiration from their display in the opening thirty minutes at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium.
"We prepare like any game we've done with this team, we don't underestimate anyone and I think if we can bring what we did in the last game in the first half and make sure we keep concentrated and see out the game I think we have a very good chance to do what we need to do," Troost-Ekong added.
The 27-year-old concluded by sending a message to the Super Eagles fans, "They are going to be seeing a team that is very hungry to get the win here, we want to qualify as soon as possible".
Nigeria have won only once in their last six visits to Sierra Leone - a World Cup qualifier in June 2008 with a certain Joseph Yobo grabbing the game-winning goal in the 89th minute.
