Miguel Azeez, Folarin Balogun Spotted Training With Arsenal First Team Pre-Southampton
Published: December 16, 2020
Two players of Nigerian descent in Miguel Azeez and Folarin Balogun are seemingly in contention to be included in Arsenal's matchday squad when they take on Southampton in the English Premier League this evening, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.
The two promising teenagers were spotted training with the Gunners first teamers at London Colney on Tuesday afternoon before the visit of Southampton to the Emirates Stadium.
Azeez was rested for Arsenal's FA Youth Cup win against Rotherham United due to his call up to the first team.
The Hale End Academy products, who have not made their debuts in the top-flight, are not part of the 25-man squad for the Premier League but are eligible to be fielded as they are both classed as U21 players.
With central midfielders Thomas Partey and Granit Xhaka ruled out of the game against the Saints due to injury and suspension respectively, it remains to be seen if Azeez will be in the matchday squad for a Premier League game for the first time in his career.
As for Balogun, he is competing with more experienced players such as Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Alexandre Lacazette, Eddie Nketiah and Gabriel Martinelli for one of the spots in attack.
