Iwobi Starts Seventh Consecutive Match As Everton Beaten By Manchester United In Carabao Cup
Published: December 23, 2020
Manchester United are into the semifinal of the Carabao Cup after leaving it late to beat Everton 2-0 at Goodison Park on Wednesday night.
As for team news, Alex Iwobi started a seventh consecutive game for the Toffees, while Odion Ighalo was left out of the matchday squad for the first time for a non-Premier League match.
Edinson Cavani with a world-class goal, breathtakingly struck into the corner on his left foot, opened the scoring for United in the 88th minute.
As Iwobi and his teammates pressed for an equaliser, the Red Devils broke and scored the insurance goal through Anthony Martial, assisted by Marcus Rashford, to leave the home team distraught.
Seconds before Manchester United's first goal, Sigurdsson had a chance to give Everton the lead but saw his diving header fly of the wide post following a low cross from the Nigeria international.
Manchester United have been drawn against Manchester City in the Carabao Cup semifinals, while Tottenham Hotspur who beat John Obi Mikel's Stoke City face Brentford in a London derby.
