Super Eagles GK Okoye Reaches Highest Market Value After Breaking Into Sparta Rotterdam's Starting XI
Published: January 07, 2021Sparta Rotterdam rising star Maduka Okoye has the honour of being the joint-most valuable Nigerian goalkeeper in the world.
According to latest market value update by Transfermarkt, Okoye is rated at 600,000 euros (N339 million), same valuation as Kaizer Chiefs star Daniel Akpeyi.
This is the highest transfer value Okoye has attained in his career, surpassing the 150,000 euros he reached in October 2019 after his debut for the Super Eagles in a friendly against Brazil.
The former Fortuna Düsseldorf youth-teamer has forced his way into Sparta Rotterdam's starting lineup, going the distance in their last eight matches in the Eredivisie and keeping three clean sheets while conceding 10 goals.
Okoye is beginning to win back his critics after a shambolic performance that saw him concede four goals in November's Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Sierra Leone, a sign that mental strength is one of his qualities.
The 21-year-old is the 7th most expensive player at Sparta Rotterdam, ranks number 236 among all players of the Eredivisie, 560th most expensive goalkeeper in the world and 78th among all players from Nigeria.
