Super Eagles hopeful Ugbo Names Chelsea and Arsenal heroes as strikers he loved watching as a kid
Published: March 12, 2021
Super Eagles hopeful Ike Ugbo has named Chelsea icon Didier Drogba and Arsenal heroes Thierry Henry and Robin van Persie as the strikers he loved watching when he was younger.
A prolific striker for Chelsea's youth teams, the former England youth international has now come of age, accumulating 26 goals in the last two seasons with Roda JC and Cercle Brugge.
Ugbo grew up with some current Chelsea first team stars such as Mason Mount, Tammy Abraham, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Fikayo Tomori, and is still contracted to the Blues until the end of next season.
"I loved watching Thierry Henry, and Drogba, Van Persie as a kid. I remember getting to watch them up close and really keeping an eye on the way they played," Ugbo said to the Mirror.
"Drogba, obviously I got to see loads of times and watch him closely, and they were always the top players for me.

"I remember there was a game, Chelsea-Barcelona, that we saw Messi, Dani Alves, Xavi. Chelsea won 1-0, Drogba scored, and I think that was one of the best games I’ve been to."
Ugbo previously had loan spells with English clubs Barnsley, MK Dons and Scunthorpe but struggled to make an impact, netting five senior goals in 51 appearances.
