Super Eagles target makes 6th consecutive EPL appearance as Southampton lose to Brighton
Published: March 14, 2021Super Eagles target Nathan Tella continues to get a run in the Southampton first team, making his sixth consecutive appearance as they suffered a 2-1 loss at the hands of Brighton & Hove at St Mary's Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Saints boss Ralph Hasenhüttl suggested pre-match that the former Arsenal schoolboy was not named in the starting lineup in the loss to Manchester City because he was being saved for the next league game versus the Seagulls, and he kept his word by including Tella in the starting XI for today's clash.
Lewis Dunk gave Brighton the lead from a corner in the 17th minute but he then inadvertently flicked the ball on for Southampton's Che Adams to volley home his seventh Premier League goal of the campaign at minute 27.
Leandro Trossard got the winning goal for the visitors with a fabulous finish after being beautifully found by Danny Welbeck in the 56th minute.
Just past the hour mark, Tella was fouled just outside the box, but play was allowed to continue and Adams was denied by goalkeeper Robert Sanchez.
The referee went back to award a free-kick but Ward-Prowse's effort was deflected behind for a corner.
