'He's like a new striker' - Leicester City legend Walsh hails hat-trick hero Iheanacho
Published: March 15, 2021
Leicester City legend Steve Walsh reserved special praise for Kelechi Iheanacho after his first hat-trick in the Premier League inspired the Foxes to a 5-0 rout of Sheffield United on Sunday.
His treble saw him extend his scoring streak to three games in the division and take his tally for the season to ten goals in all competitions.
Walsh highlighted that Iheanacho is like a new striker and noted the contribution of Jamie Vardy who set up two of the goals scored by the Nigeria international against the Blades.
"He's like a new striker, it's incredible. A wonderful hat-trick, I'm really pleased that he went out in that second half and got those two goals," Walsh said on LCFC Radio Matchday Live.
"I said he's got to show us that he could do this and get another couple of goals and he did just that so I'm pleased for him. What a confidence booster for him.
"Jamie Vardy was almost playing both wings at times and really having a good effect, he was finding gaps down the side of the centre-backs."
If Iheanacho scores five more goals this term, it would be his best season in English football, surpassing the 14 he netted for Manchester City in 2015-2016.
