FAYC: Chelsea striker Fiabema ends 160-day wait for goal, ex-Nigeria U17 invitee keeps first clean sheet
Published: April 02, 2021
Bryan Fiabema finally ended his goal drought as Chelsea defeated AFC Fylde 2-0 at Kingsmeadow on Friday afternoon to progress to the fifth round of the prestigious FA Youth Cup.
The Norwegian-born Nigerian striker last found the net for the Blues this season in a 3-1 loss to Liverpool in a Premier League 2 game on October 24, 2020 - 160 days ago - but he was on target in a rescheduled 2019-2020 FA Youth Cup fixture against Manchester United on October 30.
Fiabema played eleven games in total before ending his goal drought two minutes after the restart in today's game against AFC Flyde.
The 18-year-old, wearing the number nine jersey, nodded home a great ball from Vale to open the scoring, and he came close to doubling the advantage before the hour mark but missed the target as he tried to generate enough power on his header.
In the 62nd minute, the Norway youth-teamer couldn't steer his header onto the target after a great ball played in from the right hand side.
Former Golden Eaglets invitee, goalkeeper Prince Adegoke went the full ninety on his FA Youth Cup debut for Chelsea and kept his first clean sheet for the club after four matches in all competitions.
In the next round of the competition, Chelsea will face the winner of the game between Manchester City and Everton.
