'Iheanacho is a striker in form' - Former West Ham captain lauds Leicester striker after latest heroics
Published: April 11, 2021
This season's surprise package West Ham United are back into the top four once again following a statement win against Leicester City at the London Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Nigeria internationals Kelechi Iheanacho and Wilfred Ndidi went the distance for the Foxes though the holding midfielder was walking a disciplinary tightrope after picking up a booking in the 46th minute.
Manchester United loanee Jesse Lingard scored two more goals today in the space of fifteen minutes - both coming in the first half- but it was Jarrod Bowen who ended up being the match winner.
Leicester City fought back in the second half but they ran out of time to get an equaliser
In the 70th minute, Iheanacho sent a rocket into the net to pull a goal back and give the Foxes hope, before scoring his second of the game from close range in added time to bring Leicester City to within one goal of completing a comeback.
The Super Eagles striker has been in excellent form since the start of last month, scoring nine goals in his last six games in all competitions, something which was highlighted by former West Ham captain Matthew Upson during commentary on BBC Radio 5 Live after the Leicester City number 14 made it 3-1.
"David Moyes has just volleyed a water bottle in disgust. He's furious with Arthur Masuaku! So sloppy from the left wing back - and he knows it as well," Upson said.
"Such a loose touch and he thinks he's got all the time in the world. Take nothing away from the finish, though. Kelechi Iheanacho is a striker in form."
In the race for the Champions League places, Leicester City's destiny is still in their own hands as they currently sit third in the table with 56 points, one more than West Ham, seven matches to the end of the season.
