Photo: Tottenham coach Mourinho picked Nigerian youngster as '21st man' in loss to Man Utd
Published: April 12, 2021
Tottenham Hotspur manager Jose Mourinho named Nigeria-eligible youngster Joshua Oluwayemi in his provisional squad list for the visit of Manchester United on Sunday and this is official.
The goalkeeper was spotted arriving at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium (see video 0.34 - 0.38) just before the game against the Red Devils kicked off.
Oluwayemi eventually became the '21st player', with goalkeepers Hugo Lloris and Joe Hart cleared to play after coming through the warm-up unscathed.
Undisputed third-choice goalkeeper Alfie Whiteman appears to have suffered a potential season-ending injury, having undergone surgery to his left knee after tearing his meniscus, and he's not expected to resume training until May.
The injury to Whiteman has opened the door for Oluwayemi to be Tottenham Hotspur's third choice goalkeeper, behind France World Cup winner Lloris and ex-England number one Hart.
A superb second half performance earned Manchester United all three points, with Fred, Edinson Cavani and Mason Greenwood getting on the scoresheet.
South Korea star Son Heung-Min had opened the scoring for the north London team five minutes before the interval.
