Arsenal's next big thing Azeez on target against Chelsea U18s in final game of the season
Published: May 12, 2021
Arsenal U18s finished the 2020-2021 season with an impressive 2-1 road win against Chelsea in the U18 Premier League on Wednesday afternoon.
Gunners U18s boss Ken Gillard fielded a strong starting lineup, with five teenagers of Nigerian descent starting, namely Mazeed Ogungbo, Daniel Oyegoke, Miguel Azeez, Nathan Butler-Oyedeji and Joel Ideho.
German-born Anglo-Nigerian wing-back Derrick Abu went the distance for Chelsea for only the second time this season.
Sixteen minutes into the contest, Azeez opened the scoring after he was set up by in-form winger Ideho.
The Spanish-Anglo-Nigerian starlet has been projected as one of the most promising players in Arsenal's Hale End Academy and tipped to make his Premier League debut in the near future.
Aged 18, Azeez was named in matchday squads for Europa League games on five occasions this term and was an unused substitute against Sheffield United in the Premier League last month.
A sixth player of Nigerian descent in the shape of central defender Zach Awe replaced Oyedeji with three minutes remaining.
In the provisional standings, Arsenal occupy fourth place with 40 points, three more than north London rivals Tottenham Hotspur who have a game in hand.
