Nephew of ex-Super Eagles stars helps Man City win clean sweep of Premier League titles
Published: May 12, 2021
Tai Sodje, nephew of former Super Eagles defenders Sam and Efe Sodje, helped Manchester City become the first club to claim a clean sweep of Premier League titles in the same season on Wednesday.
The Citizens have clinched the U18 Premier League North title following their hard-fought 1-0 win over Burnley this afternoon, with the Anglo-Nigerian center forward in action for the last eighteen minutes.
Three weeks ago, Manchester City U23s won the Premier League 2 title while the first team celebrated winning the Premier League on Tuesday evening as Manchester United lost to Leicester City.
A minute after Sodje came on, Manchester City netted the game-winning goal through Carlos Borges, who broke into the box and smashed in at the near post.
The win saw Manchester City leapfrog Manchester United on the final day of the season, winning the league by a single point.
One of the amazingly talented youngsters in Manchester City Academy, the 17-year-old Sodje ended the season as the club's top scorer in the U18 Premier League North with 19 goals in 22 matches.
Sodje and his teammates will face either Fulham or Crystal Palace for the U18 national title.
