Teenage right-back of Nigerian descent delighted to make Premier League debut for Sheffield United
Published: May 20, 2021Teenage Nigerian right-back Femi Seriki has expressed his happiness at making his English Premier League debut.
Interim Blades boss Paul Heckingbottom handed the 2002-born player his professional debut against Newcastle United at St James' Park on Wednesday, bringing him on as a replacement for Jayden Bogle in the third minute of second half stoppage time.
Seriki was picked up by Sheffield United in September 2019 after his former club Bury suddenly went under.
The Manchester-born youngster has been rewarded with a first team debut following his superb form for Sheffield United's U23 team.
Aged 19 years and 21 days on Wednesday, Seriki is the 18th youngest player to feature in this season's Premier League.
Arsenal loanee Joe Willock became the youngest player to score in six consecutive Premier League games when he netted the winner just before half-time.
Writing on Instagram, Seriki stated : "Despite the result, I am more than grateful to make my Premier League Debut for @sheffieldunited ⚔️❤️ #godisgood".
During his Bury days, Seriki made the bench against Port Vale in a League Two clash, and was also a non-playing substitute versus Mansfield Town in the EFL Trophy.
