Emery provides fresh update on fitness of Chukwueze ahead of UEL showpiece vs Man Utd
Published: May 21, 2021Speaking to reporters at Friday's press conference, Villarreal manager Unai Emery has confirmed that Samuel Chukwueze will sit out tomorrow's La Liga clash against Real Madrid at the Estadio Alfredo Di Stéfano (Madrid).
The Nigeria national teamer has not figured for the Yellow Submarine since sustaining a hamstring-related injury during the first half of the goalless draw against Arsenal in the Europa League.
Chukwueze is now racing against the clock to be fit for Villarreal's final game of the season - the Europa League showpiece against Manchester United on Wednesday, May 26.
It is thought that the right winger is closing in on a return to action as he has resumed individual training.
Providing a fitness update on his squad, Emery stated : "First, take into account the available ones. We are already working with Juan Foyth, but he has made it part of the training, so we are not going to have him for the game yet.
"We had Vicente Iborra who, after a long injury, we are happy to have him with the group but he will not be there tomorrow either.
"Then we have the evolution of Chukwueze, who is going better but he is not with the group".
Chukwueze has started ten of the fourteen matches played by Villarreal in this season's Europa League, scoring once and registering four assists.
