Squad update Super Eagles : Slovak-based center-back handed late call-up pre-Cameroon
Published: June 02, 2021
The Nigeria Football Federation have handed a late call-up to Slovak-based central defender Anthony Izuchukwu ahead of the national team's international friendlies against Cameroon.
The Federation have informed that the Spartak Trnava star is now in camp, meaning there are twenty-one players at the disposal of manager Gernot Rohr.
Nigeria are short on defenders for the friendlies, with Rangers' Leon Balogun, West Brom's Semi Ajayi, Porto's Zaidu Sanusi, Fulham's Ola Aina, Leganes' Kenneth Omeruo and Twente's Tyronne Ebuehi withdrawing from the roster on account of injuries.
Izuchukwu was a key member of the Dream Team squad to the 2019 Africa U23 Cup of Nations, going the distance in all their matches during the tournament in Egypt.
With the arrival of Izuchukwu, there are now three Golden Boot Soccer academy products in the Super Eagles camp, the others being skipper Ahmed Musa and Moses Simon.
The former FK Haugesund and FK Jerv star has been described as a very fast center back, strong and a good passer of the ball.
