Nigeria-eligible striker battles Ronaldo, Bruno Fernandes, 7 others for Man Utd Goal of the Month
Published: October 05, 2021Nigeria-eligible striker Dillon Hoogewerf has been nominated for Manchester United's Goal of the Month award for September 2021, informs the official website of the Red Devils.
Hoogewerf has been shortlisted for his effort in an EFL Trophy clash against League Two club Bradford City on September 21.
After providing an assist for United's second goal netted by Joe Hugill, the Dutch-Nigerian wrapped up the scoring in the 82nd minute as United ran out 3-0 winners.
The half-time substitute burst through and finished superbly past the Bradford goalkeeper after collecting a pass from Shola Shoretire.
To win the monthly accolade, Hoogewerf faces competition from Cristiano Ronaldo and Jesse Lingard, who have both been double nominated for the award, and seven other players.
Other nominees are Ona Batlle, Bruno Fernandes, Ella Toone, Alejandro Garnacho, Zidane Iqbal, Manni Norkett and Alex Telles.
A Netherlands youth international, Hoogewerf was promoted to Manchester United's development squad before the start of the 2021-2022 season.
