Inter Milan CEO explains why Serie A champions didn't sign Osimhen before move to Napoli
Speaking at the Trento Sports Festival of Serie A, Inter Milan CEO Giuseppe Marotta has admitted that Victor Osimhen was on the radar of the current Serie A champions before the striker transferred to Napoli in 2020.

The Nigeria international was linked with a plethora of top European clubs after a fantastic season at Lille, scoring 18 goals in 38 appearances across all competitions in 2019-2020.

The 2015 U17 World Cup Golden Boot winner joined Napoli for a fee of 70 million euros, making him the club's record acquisition in history.

Marotta revealed that Inter Milan didn't firm up their interest in Osimhen because there was a depth of attacking options at the disposal of the then manager Antonio Conte, including Romelu Lukaku, Alexis Sanchez and Lautaro Martínez.

"First of all it was a very expensive operation for Napoli, but he was not a stranger so it is normal that many clubs had set their sights on him," Marotta was quoted as saying by 100x100napoli.it.

"We knew him, but we were already covered in the role. "

Osimhen has been in brilliant form in the new season, scoring 7 goals in 8 matches, and was named the Italian Professional Footballers' Association (AIC) Player of the Month for September 2021.

The 22-year-old is set to add to his international caps in Sunday's meeting between Central African Republic and Nigeria in Douala.
