UYL : 2 strikers of Nigerian descent help Man Utd secure win; Oyedele first squad involvement
Published: October 20, 2021
Two Nigeria-eligible strikers in the shape of Shola Shoretire and Dillon Hoogewerf helped Manchester United return to winning ways in the UEFA Youth League on Wednesday afternoon.
The young Red Devils came from behind to thrash Atalanta U19s 4-2 at Leigh Sports Village Stadium.
England U19 international Shola Shoretire was named in the starting lineup, Netherlands youth teamer Hoogewerf subbed in with nineteen minutes remaining, while midfielder Max Oyedele was named in a matchday squad for a UEFA Youth League game for the first time in his United career.
Against the run of the play, the visitors took the lead through Simone Panada in the 20th minute, only for Zidane Iqbal to equalise with a brilliant low strike.
It was a really good performance from the English side in the first half as Hugill and Garnacho scored to put them 3-1 up.
In the second half, Forsen finished with his first touch for 4-1 before De Nipoti halved the deficit deep into stoppage time.
Shoretire, who saw his shot saved in the first half, departed the field in the 75th minute.
Manchester United are second in the Group F standings with six points, same with Villarreal who have a better goal difference and have a game in hand.
