'I appreciate the player' - West Ham boss responds to transfer links to Super Eagles star
Published: October 20, 2021
West Ham boss David Moyes has played down speculation that linked Super Eagles star Paul Onuachu with a move to the Premier League club in the summer transfer window.
As previously reported by allnigeriasoccer.com, the Racing Genk striker was offered to the Hammers but ultimately a move did not happen.
The Scottish football tactician acknowledges that he likes Onuachu and has been keeping tabs on the progress of the lanky attacker ahead of West Ham's Europa League meeting with Racing Genk.
In quotes relayed by Football. London, Moyes said at Wednesday afternoon's pre-match press conference : "I don't want to disappoint but he wasn't someone who we really considered.
"Quite often at West Ham we are linked with so many players. So I have to say there is not an awful lot of truth in it.
"I appreciate the player I have watched him play recently because we’re watching the games but I have to say he wasn't one of the targets we had planned for the summer time".
Onuachu is one of three Nigeria-eligible players who traveled with the Genk squad to London this afternoon, the others being Super Eagles hopeful Ike Ugbo and Spanish-Nigerian-Ghanaian defender Mujaid Sadick.
The former FC Midtjylland man has eleven goals from fifteen appearances in all competitions so far this season.
