UYL : Exciting youngster Shoretire on target as Manchester United do the double over Atalanta
Published: November 02, 2021
Promising striker of Nigerian descent Shola Shoretire was among the scorers as Manchester United defeated Atalanta 2-1 in a UEFA Youth League clash at Centro Sportivo Bortolotti - Bergamo on Tuesday afternoon.
The Red Devils have beaten the Italian side twice in this season's competition, having won the first leg 4-2 thirteen days ago.
Shoretire found the back of the net eight minutes in and Anthony Elanga doubled Manchester United’s lead midway through the first half directly from a free-kick.
Atalanta halved the deficit through Guillaume Philippe Renault who converted from the spot after Svidersky handled the ball in the area.
Shoretire came close to extending United's lead in the second half but saw his effort saved by the Nerazzurri goalkeeper Jacopo Sassi.
Atalanta had at least two chances to bring the game back to parity but missed the goalscoring opportunities and the English side were able to hold onto victory which takes them to nine points from four matches.
Manchester United's Dutch-Nigerian striker Dillon Hoogewerf tasted action against Atalanta, entering the game as a substitute in the 65th minute.
