Osimhen delivers 17-word reaction after his crucial goal against Cape Verde in 2022 WCQ
Published: November 16, 2021
Victor Osimhen has taken to social media to celebrate the Super Eagles reaching the playoff round of the 2022 World Cup qualifiers after a 1-1 draw with a stubborn Cape Verde side on Tuesday evening.
Heading into the fixture at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, the equation was simple as the Super Eagles needed to avoid defeat to secure a place in the playoffs for a spot at Qatar 2022.
The Napoli striker gave the the three-time African champions a dream start when he netted from close range in the first minute, taking his tally in World Cup qualifying to four goals.
Ianique dos Santos Tavares restored parity with a well taken finish in the sixth minute after poor marking by William Troost-Ekong.
To be fair, the Super Eagles were relatively comfortable over the duration of the game as Cape Verde did not create any danger despite the possession they had.
Osimhen uploaded a 17-word post on Instagram after the game, saying : "Strong character from the boys, respect to the Cape Verdean team. Unto the playoffs now! Super Eagles."
The hardworking Osimhen made way for Paul Onuachu with one minute left on the clock.
After international duty with the Super Eagles, Osimhen can now turn his attention to Napoli's big clash against Inter Milan at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza this coming Sunday.
