EPL wrap : Eze returns after 195 days; Balogun, Okonkwo missing; Tella subbed in; Olise starts

In the early kickoff, Arsenal inflicted Newcastle United their seventh loss of the season, beating the Magpies 2-0 at the Emirates Stadium in London.

Goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo and striker Folarin Balogun, who are Arsenal first teamers on paper, were not picked in the matchday 20 by manager Mikel Arteta .

Bukayo Saka and the player who replaced him in the 64th minute, Gabriel Martinelli, got their names on the scoresheet in the second half.

Nathan Tella, who is being monitored by Super Eagles chief scout in England, played the entirety of the second half as Southampton were thrashed 4-0 by Liverpool at Anfield.

Diogo Jota scored twice; Thiago added a third before halftime and van Dijk wrapped up the scoring six minutes into the second half.

At Selhurst Park, Nigeria Football Federation target Eberechi Eze played the final thirty minutes of Crystal Palace's 2-1 loss to Aston Villa, for whom Carney Chukwuemeka was a non-playing substitute.

Eze made his season debut 195 days after his last appearance in the top-flight, against today's opponents Aston Villa on May 16, 2021.

Another Super Eagles target Michael Olise started and was in action for 87 minutes before making way for Jordan Ayew.

Matt Targett and John McGinn got the goals in Steven Gerrard's second game in charge of Aston Villa, while Marc Guehi pulled a goal back for the Eagles with almost the last kick of the game.
