16-year-old Nigeria-eligible striker battles Kante, Reece James, 7 others for Chelsea GOTM
Published: December 05, 2021
Tudor Mendel-Idowu is in the running for Chelsea's Goal of the Month award for November 2021, the official website of the Blues informed on Sunday.
The 2005-born left-footed attack-minded player has been nominated for his effort against Crystal Palace in the U18 Premier League on November 6.
Thirty two minutes into the contest, Mendel-Idowu needed just one touch to push the ball onto his left-foot before striking the ball across the goalkeeper and into the top corner to double the advantage.
The 16-year-old is up against first team stars N'Golo Kante, Reece James, Kai Haverz and Hakim Ziyech for the monthly accolade.
Also nominated are strikes from Chelsea Women's Fran Kirby, Melanie Leupolz and Jessie Fleming, U19 midfielder Charlie Webster and U23s ace Lewis Baker.
Mendel-Idowu is living up to his billing as a wonderkid, scoring and assisting in each of his last three games in the U18 Premier League.
He bagged a brace and provided an assist in a 6-1 win over Brighton & Hove on November 20 and was involved in two goals (1 goal, 1 assist) in yesterday's 4-1 rout of Arsenal.
