Shoretire makes Champions League debut for Man Utd in draw against Young Boys
Published: December 08, 2021
Highly-rated attacking midfielder of Nigerian descent, Shola Shoretire made his Champions League debut as Manchester United were held to a 1-1 draw by Young Boys at Old Trafford on Wednesday night.
In his first-ever squad involvement for the Champions League, the England U19 international entered the game as a substitute in the 67th minute, replacing Amad.
There was a clear indication that he was going to be involved in some capacity against the Swiss Super League champions after he was completely left out of the matchday squad for the UEFA Youth League clash against the U19 side of Young Boys.
Mason Greenwood gave the home team a dream start when he opened the scoring after nine minutes with a stunning effort after he was picked out by Luke Shaw's cross.
Three minutes before halftime, Fabian Rieder found the net with a curling effort to make it 1-1 after United gave the ball away just outside the 18-yard box.
Shoretire was shown a yellow card for bringing down Meschak Elia in the 79th minute.
His previous appearance in European competition for Manchester United came against Real Sociedad back in February.
