FAYC : Johnson confident Colchester can beat Arsenal in front of Gunners icon Jack Wilshere
Published: December 10, 2021
Nigerian goalkeeper Endurance Johnson is confident that Colchester United can pull off a shock win over Arsenal in an FA Youth Cup third round clash on Friday night.
Gunners icon Jack Wilshere, the standout player for Arsenal when they won the FA Youth Cup in 2009, has confirmed via Instagram that he will be at the JobServe Community Stadium to monitor proceedings.
Wilshere is training with Arsenal to maintain his fitness and has been advising the youngsters in the club's ranks.
Johnson, who started in goal for The U's in their last two FA Youth Cup matches, believes that Colchester United have the quality to compete with seven-time winners of the competition, Arsenal.
Speaking to allnigeriasoccer.com, Johnson said : "I feel we stand a good chance. Our form in the league is decent.
"We have some incredible players as well that have the ability to go and cause them problems.
"It will be a difficult game as it isn't the type of team we are used to playing on a weekly basis but it will be a very good experience for all of us and it will show us what it takes to get to where they are.
"We have done well in the first two rounds of the FA Youth Cup already and it's now about taking the form and confidence from those games and using it not only in this game but games in the future as well".
Colchester United set up a glamour clash with the young Gunners after wins against Bugbrooke St Michael and Swindon Town.
