FAYC : Nigerian GK outstanding as Colchester United pull off shock 3-0 win vs Arsenal
Published: December 11, 2021
Goalkeeper Endurance Johnson was one of the heroes for Colchester United as they pulled off a shock 3-0 win over Arsenal to advance to the next round of the FA Youth Cup on Friday night.
The Flying Eagles hopeful started in between the pipes for the U's and there was also a start for another Anglo-Nigerian teenager in Arsenal center back Zach Awe.
Johnson made an acrobatic save to deny Henry-Francis from opening the scoring in the seventh minute, pushing his effort over the bar.
The 18-year-old made a number of textbook saves and ensured Colchester United did not concede in the opening forty-five minutes.
Just before the break, the U's deservedly took the lead as Ryan Lowe converted a penalty after Tovide was fouled in the box.
Tovide with a brilliant header scored the clinching goal with ten minutes left to play in the second half and Kaan Bennett added further gloss to the scoreline in stoppage time.
