17-year-old striker Akinwale shortlisted for Crystal Palace's March Goal of the Month
Published: March 30, 2022
Through their official website, Crystal Palace have announced the nominees for the club's Goal of the Month for March 2022, with a teenager of Nigerian descent making the cut.
Victor Akinwale, 17, is one of five contenders to win the monthly accolade and has to see off competition from Jairo Riedewald, Fionn Mooney, Nya Kirby and Coral-Jade Haines.
The promising Anglo-Nigerian striker netted a brace in Palace U18s last game before the international break to help them secure a 3-0 win over West Brom in the U18 Premier League.
In the 64th minute, the England U18 international latched on to a through ball from just past the halfway line and smashed into the bottom corner to break the deadlock.
Akinwale is having a prolific season and his second goal against the Baggies in the 73rd minute took his tally for the season to nineteen goals in all competitions, comprising 16 in the U18 Premier League, one in the FA Youth Cup and two in the U18 Premier League Cup.
Ivory Coast international Wilfried Zaha's stunning long-range strike vs Norwich City was voted Crystal Palace's Goal of the Month for February.
