'Ndidi out for the season' - Leicester boss confirms ahead of trip to Manchester United
Published: March 31, 2022Wilfred Ndidi will not be involved for Leicester City when they take on Manchester United in the Premier League on Saturday, with manager Brendan Rodgers confirming that the Nigeria international will miss the remainder of the season.
The holding midfielder was forced off injured in the second half of the Foxes' Europa Conference League meeting with Rennes exactly two weeks ago and has since had surgery.
The injury saw him miss Nigeria's back-to-back matches against the Black Stars of Ghana this month in 2022 World Cup qualifying, and he was a huge loss for the Super Eagles with Frank Onyeka, Joe Aribo, Abdullahi Shehu and Innocent Bonke struggling to fill his shoes.
Apart from the trip to Manchester United, Ndidi will not be available for selection in ten other games in the Premier League and would miss five matches in the Europa Conference League if Leicester City qualify for the showpiece.
Providing a fitness update on his squad before the clash against the Red Devils, Rodgers said : "Wilfred Ndidi will be out for the season, it’s a shame for us but he’ll get ready for next season.
"It’s unfortunate. He’s been a brilliant player for me in my time here. He picked up a nasty injury that has had to have surgery on and he’ll recover now until June."
The 25-year-old Ndidi will end the 2021-2022 season with two goals in 31 all-competition appearances for Leicester City.
